A Letter From the Founder

Welcome — I’m Sonia Beccari, Founder and Chief Creative Director of Brown Sugar Candle Co.™. Thank you for taking a moment to learn about our brand's story, where craftsmanship, intention, and purpose come together.

Brown Sugar Candle Co. was born from a deeply personal journey—one marked by resilience, healing, and the universal desire to belong. As a first-generation immigrant from India, I quickly learned what it means to rebuild, adapt, and find my place in a world that often felt unfamiliar. Throughout my life, I’ve faced hardships that many silently endure, including childhood trauma, mental health struggles, and domestic abuse. These experiences did not define me; instead, they strengthened my understanding of self-worth, empathy, connection, and the resilience needed to create beauty from adversity.

Searching for a creative way to relieve stress, I discovered candle-making. Each candle I poured was a small act of grounding, an invitation to be present, and a sensory reminder that brought clarity to life's most challenging moments. I wanted to share this experience with others who lead stressful lives, and it inspired me to offer comfort through light and scent.

Just as I prioritize my family’s wellbeing, I aim to create products that encourage wellness, safety, and purpose. All our scented products are crafted with non-toxic fragrances, natural essential oils, and our candles are made with 100% natural, high-quality soy or soy-coconut wax, lead-free wicks, and reusable containers suitable for any space. These decisions embody my belief that luxury should extend beyond aesthetics, emphasizing responsibility, transparency, and mindfulness for people and the environment.

However, the essence of Brown Sugar Candle Co.™ extends beyond scent alone. It is founded on values that represent genuine modern luxury: wellness, inclusivity, mental health awareness, and compassion.

Every year, part of our sales supports initiatives that expand mental health resources, empower minority communities, promote LGBTQ+ inclusion, and protect animals that enrich our lives. These commitments are more than simple promotional gestures; they are personal promises rooted in the communities and experiences that have shaped my own journey.
